Making Sound Preschool LRE Decisions Creating Guiding Principles
In this activity, participants develop guiding principles that reflect their beliefs and values about high-quality inclusion. The activity accomodates—and can benefit from—a large group of participants. (45 min.)
Materials
- A way to collect and share participants' suggested beliefs and values (for example, paper worksheets, large sticky notes, or online chat)
Before You Begin
This activity is one in a set of three related activities:
Activity Process
Direct participants to reflect on beliefs and values they hold about high-quality inclusion.
Invite participants to engage in quiet reflection or record a few thoughts for themselves. (5 min.)
Divide participants into pairs.
Ask participants to share and discuss the values they generated with their partner. (5 min.)
Combine pairs into a groups of four.
Direct each group to reach a concensus on up to five core values and record their results. (10 min.)
Reconvene the full group.
Collect participants' responses for display and discussion.
Attempt to reach consensus on a set of guiding principles.
Your selected guiding principles should establish a framework for expected behavior and decision-making.
