Is It Developmentally Appropriate??

• Language & Reading/Writing are developmental processes that are for the most part are not age or grade dependent…

• Need to teach kids where they are…building on the known - prior knowledge, teach within their “ZPD” - zone of proximal development

• What‘s “appropriate” totally depends upon what is the “next step” for that child - there is no master list of developmentally appropriate or inappropriate practices… student needs must guide us

What is appropriate to develop?
