1. Supporting Families Impacted by Opioid Use and Neonatal Abstinence
This new resource from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (October 2018) provides home visiting practitioners useful information on the effects of the opioid crisis on young children and describes approaches and treatments necessary for meeting their complex needs, as well as, the mothers' needs. Additional resources about children with special health care needs can be found on the MRSA website.
2. Psychosocial Factors in Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs and Their Families
According to the National Survey of Children's Health, children with special health care needs increased 4.3% between 2010 and 2016. The latest issue of Pediatrics from the AAP (January 2019, VOLUME 143, Issue 1), discusses the psychosocial factors of this population and provides recommendations for caregivers, pediatricians and schools to better support the well-being of children challenged with special health care needs.

4. The Evaluation Roadmap for Optimizing Pre-K Programs
The Brookings Institution recently published The Evaluation Roadmap for Optimizing Pre-K Programs (October 2018). This report is the result of a series of meetings between practitioners and researchers in early childhood and was designed as a guide for implementing strong evaluation techniques in pre-K programs. Some topics and considerations discussed are data collection with the intention of producing reliable evidence, eligibility and funding, data linking, data privacy and data sharing agreements.
