1. Prenatal-to-Age-Three State Grant Competition
The Pritzker Children's Initiative (PCI) has announced a Prenatal-to-Age-Three State Grant Competition (November 2018) awarding up to 10 state grants to develop and strengthen high-quality services for infants and toddlers. The first three years are the bricks and mortar of brain development, when a child's brain is developing faster than at any later period in life. This is why PCI is seeking proposals from states across the country that help put our youngest children on a path for future success in school and life. Letters of Intent are due on January 15, 2019 with Planning Grant proposals due on February 15, 2019.
To learn more about the competition, PCI is hosting a webinar on November 27, 2018 at 1 pm ET.
2. 2018 Home Visiting Yearbook
This annual publication (2018) from the National Home Visiting Resource Center (NHVRC) offers comprehensive national and state data about evidence-based early childhood home visiting models from awardees of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV) fund. The yearbook features 2017 data and covers 15 evidence-based service delivery models, plus 9 emerging models.
3. Intellectual Disabilities
According to a recent article in AAP's journal Pediatrics (June 2018, Volume 39, Issue 6), assessment tests of intellectual functioning can be administered to children as early as age 2, although intelligence scores become more stable after age 5. An estimated two-thirds of children diagnosed with a global developmental delay (GDD) before school-age will also be diagnosed with an intellectual disability (ID). The article encourages pediatricians and practitioners stay current in their knowledge of ID and have the ability to formulate evaluation plans for children with ID, together with treatment options and referral services.
4. Spanish Early Intervention (IDEA Part C) Family Guides
In October 2018, CADRE released Las Guías para familias de intervención temprana de la IDEA Parte C están disponibles in Español (Early Intervention Family Guides for Part C of the IDEA in Spanish). The resource includes four family guides, an early intervention dispute resolution comparison chart, a list of common terms, and additional information about due process procedures under Part C of the IDEA.
CADRE also offers Family Guides translated in Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Hmong, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Portuguese, Japanese, and Somali.
