1. Child Health USA 2014 Now Online
The MCHB has published its annual report on the health status and service needs of America's children. Child Health USA 2014 provides summaries of data on over 50 health-related indicators and addresses long-term trends. This year's report finds that the proportion of children aged 10-71 months receiving a standardized developmental screening increased from 19.5% in 2007 to 30.8% in 2011-2012. Additionally, among children 6 months-5 years of age, 73.2% were reported to usually or always exhibit 4 age-specific behaviors associated with flourishing (curiosity, resilience, attachment to caregivers, and positive affect). Only 47.7% of school-aged children were reported to usually or always exhibit 3 age-specific flourishing behaviors (curiosity, resilience, and self-regulation). The report allows users to define their own queries and view data by multiple sociodemographic and health-related characteristics.

4. Benchmarks for Quality Improvement - Indicators and Self-Assessment Tool
Quality Improvement Systems focus on improving the quality of child care in all settings through quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS) and other quality-enhancing efforts. The Office of Child Care's Benchmarks for Quality Improvement Project recently released the following resources to help states assess the status of their child care and other early education programs and measure progress in implementing program quality improvement systems.
- Benchmarks for Quality Improvement: Measuring Progress in State and Territory Program Quality Improvement Efforts (2015)
- Benchmarks for Quality Improvement Self-Assessment Tool (2015)
5. Updated WWC Intervention Report on Shared Book Reading
The WWC has published a new early childhood intervention report on Shared Book Reading (also known as interactive shared book reading), which encompasses practices adults can use to enhance young children's language and literacy skills. Based on the most current evidence, the WWC found that Shared Book Reading has mixed effects on comprehension and language development and no discernible effects on alphabetics and general reading achievement for children under age 6 and not yet in kindergarten. See the full report here. Visit the WWC Early Childhood Education topic area for more reviews on programs and methods that aim to improve preschool children's learning.
6. Grant Announcements for Education Research and Special Education Research
