1. Updated State Tables Show Final FY 2008 Allocations for Many Education Programs

Updated state tables showing final FY 2008 allocations for many U.S. Department of Education programs are now available online. Please note, FY 2008 allocations for the following programs are final (although the column headings on the tables still show FY 2008 as estimated):

  • Special Education - Grants to States
  • Special Education - Preschool Grants
  • Special Education - Grants for Infants and Families

2. $4.37 Million in Grants Awarded for Training Highly Qualified Personnel in Special Education

On July 2, 2008 the U.S. Department of Education announced the award of $4.37 million in grants to universities in 14 states to help train doctoral, post-doctoral and other graduate students to work with children with disabilities in early intervention, special education or related services. 3. Child Abuse and Neglect: General Information Packet

The Child Welfare Information Gateway has published a new general information packet on child abuse and neglect that includes information about the definitions of maltreatment, child abuse and neglect prevention, and statistical information about the prevalence of child abuse and neglect and the characteristics of victims and offenders. It also provides directories of federal clearinghouses, hotlines, state agencies, and other organizations that disseminate information about family and domestsic violence and substance abuse.
