The Foundation for Child Development has published a special focus report, Trends in Infancy/Early Childhood and Middle Childhood Well-Being, 1994-2006, which presents a comprehensive picture of the health, well-being, and quality of life of children in the U.S. from birth through 11 years old. The report finds overall improvements in well-being, although significant declines in the health domain are reported, mostly due to obesity rates and the number of babies born at lower weights. It finds rising education attainment, due to increasing numbers of children ages 4-6 in full-day kindergarten. Additionally, it finds that more parents are reading to their children and setting limits for television watching.
