The following new grant notice was issued by the Department of Education today:
Title: Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities--National Center to Enhance the Professional Development of School Personnel Who Share Responsibility for Improving Results for Children With Disabilities (National Professional Development Enhancement Center)(84.325F)
Summary: The purposes of this program are to (1) help address State-identified needs for highly qualified personnel--in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education--to work with infants or toddlers with disabilities, or children with disabilities; and (2) ensure that those personnel have the skills and knowledge--derived from practices that have been determined through research and experience to be successful--that are needed to serve those children.
Dates: Applications Available: June 19, 2006.
Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: July 19, 2006.

The Department of Health & Human Services, Administration for Children and Families issued the following grant notice today:
Title: Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning
Summary: The purpose of this grant is to improve the social and emotional outcomes and enhance the school readiness of children, birth to age five, through: (1) analysis of research on evidence-based, user-friendly strategies and the development and national dissemination of these strategies for use in early childhood classrooms and care settings; (2) the creation of partnership networks to build the capacity and foster the sustainability of Head Start and Child Care programs; and (3) the implementation of process and outcome evaluations on the impact of evidence-based, user-friendly strategies on improving the social and emotional outcomes and school readiness of children, birth to age five.

Cultural and Linguistic Competence in Family Supports - This new policy brief from the National Center for Cultural Competence, Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) discusses cultural factors that may impact supports and services for families of children with special health care needs. It is meant to be used by organizations interested in developing policies that promote and sustain cultural and linguistic competence in the provision of family support services.
