The Director of the Institute of Education Sciences (Institute) announces 20 FY 2006 competitions for grants to support education research ... The intent of these grants is to provide national leadership in expanding fundamental knowledge and understanding of education from early childhood education through postsecondary and adult education.

In carrying out its mission, the Institute provides support for programs of research in areas of demonstrated national need. One of the competitions in this notice includes "Research on Early Intervention and Assessment for Young Children with Disabilities," among others. 2. Dr. Dick Clifford testifies at US Congress Hearing on Early Childhood Education

On April 21, 2005 Dr. Dick Clifford, Senior Scientist at the FPG Child Development Institute, testified to the US House of Representatives, Committee on Education and the Workforce, Subcommittee on Education Reform. He was one of five panelists who testified at a hearing on Early Childhood Education: Improvement Through Integration. 3. CEC To Offer Web Seminars On The New IDEA

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) will be offering a series of three Web seminars on significant provisions in IDEA 2004. The seminars, to be broadcast in June, will cover requirements for highly qualified special education teachers; early intervention, assessment, identification, and IEPs; and discipline. 4. Revised Family Outcomes from the Early Childhood Outcomes Center

The Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) Center revised its Family and Child Outcomes in April to reflect current thinking based on stakeholder comments ... The next step in the process will be to work with OSEP and states on the development of the measurement approach. It is possible that developing the measurement approach may reveal a need for additional refinements in the outcomes.
