Joan Danaher, Ph.D FPG Child Development Institute, UNC-Chapel Hill

Joan serves on the Leadership Team of the ECTA Center as Associate Director. Her Web and Products Team, is responsible for content development, product design and production, web development/programming/usability, digital communications, design, graphics, text editing, information research and services, multimedia product authoring and production. Previously she was an Associate Director supervising TA Coordinators, providing TA, and developing products. Before her TA career, she was a teacher in the public schools in Louisiana, including persuading the Superintendent to create two classes to accommodate children being served by the local Association for Retarded Children (now known as the ARC) in advance of the state mandate, and serving as a Demonstration Teacher in a federally-funded Early Childhood Demonstration Project that was served by TADS, the first of the long line of early childhood TA centers at FPG. After completing her Ph.D. at UNC, she was hired at TADS, and thus began 37 years of acronyms: TADS, START, NEC*TAS, NECTAC, ECTA Center. She is the step-parent and grandparent of children with special needs.
